| Point Vicente Light, Rancho Palos Verdes,
California Point Vicente Light, built in 1926, sits on a 130 foot cliff at Rancho Palos Verdes north of Los Angeles harbor. This beacon of light has a Third Order Fresnel lens manufactured in France in 1886. The lens was first used in Alaska for 40 years before it was moved to Point Vicente. This two million candle power light can be seen 20 miles from shore. The day I saw this lighthouse was quite by accident. We had been on a family outing to Redondo Beach. As evening approached we took a little detour through Rancho Palos Verdes to see some of the their beautiful homes. As I looked across the way I spied something in the distance. I immediately began to question whether it might be a lighthouse. Sure enough, I was right. I am fascinated by lighthouses so I was thrilled to come across this wonderful piece of history. What a treat! |
